PTSD Resolution: UK military post-traumatic stress, treatment PTSD Resolution -If you are a former member of the UK armed services and you suffer from the symptoms of post-traumatic stress, please read this page.
A single course of treatment is usually all that’s required, delivered through a national network of therapists, trained in HGT (Human Givens Therapy) - a successful therapy for dealing with mental distress.

What is PTSD Treatment?

PTSD Resolution treatment consists of one-hour therapy sessions, on a one-to-one, out-patient basis, with a qualified therapist. Usually, three or four sessions are sufficient.

Each session and the course itself is confidential. Patients are not asked or expected to talk about the original event that caused the trauma.

Treatment is designed to be brief: the goal is that symptoms are effectively relieved and there is no continuing need for or reliance upon therapy.

Progress is measured at the start and end of each session using the ‘Impact of Events Scale’, a one-page self-assessment checklist that is used often by trauma therapists in the NHS and private practice.

The programme is delivered through a network of therapists, trained in HGT (Human Givens Therapy www.hgfoundation.com). This is a well-established therapy for the effective treatment of mental distress in the general population.

The goal of therapy is to break the link between the memory of the original event and the emotional response.

This is achieved by employing the patient’s own mental resources, with guidance by the therapist, who helps the patient to reduce anxiety levels within a calm and relaxed therapeutic setting.

The patient is then enabled to re-experience the events responsible for the trauma without further distress.

In each session the following exercises are usually used, with guidance by an experienced therapist:-

- deep relaxation;

- ‘imaginal exposure’, where the patient is asked to imagine the feared situation;

- ‘cognitive re-structuring’, to help the patient reassess a rigidly-held position on the events that occurred, to break the association between the memory and emotional response.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is approved by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
